All educational institutes, across the nation, were clamped shut in March 2020 with the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic. In Uttar Pradesh though, classes were resumed for senior school students (Std 9 to 12) earlier in October 2020, in a staggered manner. Besides them, coaching institutes outside containment zones were also permitted to reopen after October 15, last year, under the authority of state established Standard Operating Protocols (SOPs). However, the lockdown extended over middle and junior schools, until now.

An official tweet from the handle of CMO UP, stated, "According to the guidelines of the Government of India, the schools should be considered for starting classes from Class 6 to Class 12 in the next 10 days. These classes should be started only after a thorough assessment of the situation." This time too, schools in Lucknow and other districts are expected to follow all the SOPs, set before and after reopening.

As per the guidelines and protocols issued earlier in October, the classes were scheduled on alternate days with students attending classes in shifts. This was done to respect the norms of safe social distancing among the student body and staff. Directives for proper sanitisation of school premises and classrooms were also issued.
