Considering the recent developments in the facilities of the districtwide government hospitals of Lucknow, it certainly wouldn't be wrong to say that the medical infrastructure of the city is being augmented at a fair pace.

Contributing to the expansion initiatives, the Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Science (RMLIMS) will soon get a multi-organ transplant centre. For this, the hospital authorities have already sent a proposal to the state government and the facility will be developed after receiving the approval.

Planning for the development of facility already underway

The hospital authorities have already devised an illustrative plan for the establishment of the multi-organ transplant centre. Expert transplant treatments relating to different organs i.e. kidney, liver and bone marrow will be provided at this block.

Furthermore, this facility will have a 35-bed capacity which will be set up on the sixth and seventh floor of the super speciality block of Lohia hospital. Incidentally, the departments which are presently operating on these floors will be shifted to the academic block after receiving the nod from the government.

Multi-organ transplant wing of SGPGIMS also set to receive an upgrade

RMLIMS institute is already performing kidney transplants since 2016. Along with the upcoming development, RMLIMS will become the third government institute in Lucknow to house a full-fledged organ transplant facility after King George's Medical University (KGMU) and Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS).

Moreover, the State Organ Tissue Transplant Organisation (SOTTO) of SGPGIMS Lucknow, which is a separate multi-organ transplant wing of the hospital is also working on the expansion of its renal transplant division which will likely by completed by January end.
