Lucknow's tourist attractions to soon include an all-new wetland near Ekana Stadium!

This upcoming facility is expected to evolve as a hotspot for environment lovers and ornithophiles

With an objective to boost the tourism appeal of the city, Lucknow Development Authority has decided to convert the area behind Ekana Stadium into a wetland for migratory birds. As per officials, this new shelter for a large variety of avian beauties will be set up on the Chak Gajaria land. Moving ahead with the plans, the Vice Chairman of LDA has already prepared a blueprint, after talks with the authorities from the Forest Department.

According to the VC of LDA, the upcoming wetland shall come up over an expanse of 37 acres behind the Atal Bihari Vajpayee International Stadium. It will be developed in such a way that the area transforms into a natural habitat for the birds. In line with the vision to fuel eco-tourism in Lucknow, this facility is expected to evolve as a hotspot for environment lovers and ornithophiles.

Recently, a meeting was convened to discuss the details of this project. It was attended by LDA VC, Wetland Expert, Asad Rahmani, LDA Chief Engineer, Indu Shekhar Singh and other officers. It has been informed that a committee will be constituted to work on this project in the future.

As per the plans, the region will be named Chak Gajaria Wetland and the first phase of the project includes work related to land demarcation and water regulation. District Forest Officer, Dr. Ravi Kumar Singh informed that the area has become a home for a range of migratory birds, including some rare species. With the development of the planned wetland, the count of birds is expected to multiply manifold.

Currently, the area houses bee-eaters, kingfishers, parakeets, ducks, golden jackals, and butterflies, among others. While the city folks will get a new recreational centre, the new development shall also entail multiple benefits for the birds.
