Lucknow University is all set to become the third varsity in the country, to be issued with a commemorative ₹100 coin on its centenary year, after Mysore University and Banaras Hindu University. The coin is to be released by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, through a virtual channel to mark the university's Foundation Day celebrations on November 25. The PM will also release a coffee table book and stamp on the occasion.

Minted at the government mint in Mumbai, this ₹100 coin hammered out of silver, bronze, copper and nickel, will be an asset to Lucknow University's treasure trove. It will be composed of 50% silver, 40% copper, 5% nickel and zinc. It will have a diameter of 44 mm and weigh around 36 grams. The coin will be a memorable piece which would stand for LU's 100 years of excellence in the education sector. According to numismatist Sudhir Lunawat of Bikaner, this will be a non-circulating coin and will have 'Lucknow University Centenary Celebrations' engraved in English and Hindi along with the year, 1920-2020. It will also have the university's logo of 'Light and Learning' at the centre.
The grand celebration is scheduled to begin on November 19 and conclude on November 25. Anupam Kher's virtual interaction and performances by Kumar Vishwas, Malini Awasthi and Anoop Jalota, will be the star attractions of the event. In order to maintain social distancing and avoid over crowding, the University has decided to live stream its centenary events on its Youtube channel.
Lucknow University vice-chancellor Prof Alok Kumar Rai was quoted saying, "The coin, stamp and coffee table book of the university will be virtually released by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 25. This won't be just a coin, but an invaluable historic and memorable piece and a symbol of varsity's 100 years of excellence."
