Westerly winds have caused a sudden dip in temperatures in Lucknow and surrounding areas of Uttar Pradesh. Today, Lucknow recorded a maximum temperature of 29°C and a minimum of 13°C.
However, IMD's latest forecast predicts that maximum temperatures may drop below 25°C this week, with dense fog expected to blanket Lucknow and nearby regions during the early morning and late-night hours. This temperature drop is linked to icy Westerly wind descending from the hills, driven by ongoing snowfall, which is intensifying the cold across the plains.
The onset of winter this year has been delayed, with temperatures remaining above normal until November 20, whereas the chill typically sets in by mid-November. This shift could signal the impact of global warming and changes in weather patterns. IMD has also forecasted harsher winter conditions across northern India this season, influenced by the La Niña effect.
