A one of its kind, green corridor was created in Lucknow between a private and a government-run hospital. Stretching from Apollomedics Hospital to the SGPGIMS, the green route offered the Ambulance to cover the distance of 10.5 km in just 7 minutes paving way for a successful kidney transplant at the SGPGIMS. The initiative not only sets the benchmark for rapid organ transportation in Lucknow but has also given a new lease of life to a 35-year-old woman at PGI.

Green corridor for rapid organ transport

Lucknow traffic police, District Administration and hospital administration came together to create a green corridor in Lucknow. The move helped in transporting a kidney from a 21-year-old deceased from Apollomedics Hospital to a 35-year old patient in PGI.

The cross-matching of the same was also conducted by doctors from both the health facilities in a very short time on the night of May 10-11 and once the match was confirmed, efforts were pooled-in to create the corridor.

Reportedly, the 21-year-old patient was declared dead at Apollomedics Hospitals due to a brain injury in a road accident. However, life continued for several others despite this loss as the patient’s family agreed to donate organs, helping not only the PGI patient but also two others who were in need of crucial organ transplants.
