Situated on the banks of river Gomti, Moti Mahal was a residence of the nawabs and it derived its name from its immaculately white exterior. Further, if you are in the Moti Mahal complex, then you cannot miss out on the two nearby attractions- Shah Manzil and Mubarak Manzil.

It is believed that the nawabs of Lucknow enjoyed watching birds and animal sports, that were held on the banks of Gomti during their leisure hours and in an attempt to secure the best viewing spot, this palace was constructed. However, some state that pastime activities were a ruse and that the palace was built like a citadel, used to keep a close watch on enemies.
