In a much awaited move, Lucknow's Gomti Nagar Railway Station will finally be inaugurated virtually by the PM today. City-ites have been looking forward to witnessing the new look, for which renovation has been going on for a while. Redeveloped at a cost of ₹385 crore, the station now has airport-like amenities including separated arrival and departure facilities, besides congestion-free circulation, air concourse, widened parking spaces and more.
Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABS), some 37 railway stations that fall in the Lucknow division will receive a facelift.
It is noteworthy that a total of 553 railway stations of the country will be revamped in an all new light, with the end-goal of providing world-class facilities to passengers. As many as 2,000 railway infrastructure projects will be launched, announced the prime minister on Sunday.
These important junctures have been envisioned to act as ‘City Centres’ and will have amenities like inter modal connectivity, beautification of landscape, roof, etc, kids play area, food courts, CCTV cameras, free WiFi, ramps and elevators, modern furniture, and so on. The stations, inspired by local heritage, culture and architecture, will be environment friendly and Divyang friendly.
