In a concerted effort to improve facilities for voluntary blood donors, the Uttar Pradesh government has taken a significant step towards enhancing the accessibility and usability of blood donor cards across every donation center in the state.

Reportedly, the State Blood Transfusion Council (SBTC) has officially issued an order, mandating compliance with these guidelines by all UP blood banks.

Enhanced convenience for voluntary blood donors

Previously, the exchange of the donor card was limited to the issuing blood bank, causing inconvenience for donors seeking blood in a different district or when visiting another blood bank.

Furthermore, there are instances when a particular blood group is unavailable at one blood bank, prompting individuals to seek assistance from another. By enabling a single donor card to be valid across multiple blood banks, it would greatly enhance convenience for cardholders in acquiring blood from different banks.

Healthy individuals frequently donate blood with the intention of receiving blood in return, should they or their loved ones require it. This policy decision not only offers an advantage to voluntary blood donors but is also anticipated to serve as a motivational factor for other healthy individuals to step forward and contribute to blood donation.
