In a world drowning in plastic, single-use items are deemed most harmful due to their long life cycle. Polythene bags and thermocol items emerge as silent villains, suffocating the environment with their non-biodegradable menace.
Now, as a part of promoting eco-friendly measures, the UP goverment will restrict the usage of single-use plastic items and thermocol during Kanwar Yatras.
The annual pilgrimage known as Kanwar yatras is undertaken by devotees known as Kanwarias during the month of Sawan, which is set to commence from July 4 onwards this year. These yatras involve devotees travelling on foot from their hometowns to pilgrimage cities.
In a resolute stride towards creating environmental awareness, the UP government will place special emphasis on ensuring that these vibrant yatras traversing the state are entirely free from the clutches of single-use plastics. Moreover, comprehensive cleanliness drives will be meticulously executed along the yatra routes of various UP cities including Lucknow and Kanpur.
Alongside making Kanwar Yatras plastic-free, the UP government is making comprehensive arrangements for the yatras, which include ensuring the availability of drinking water, establishing medical camps and setting up Kanwar camps for community feasts.
Additionally, the movement of the yatras will be closely monitored through the utilization of CCTV and drone cameras by the UP police.
