In view of the upcoming festivals and Panchayat polls, restraints under section 144 have been extended in Lucknow till August 5 to keep the situation under control. While the restrictions were applicable till July 5 earlier, the time period has been extended with an objective to prevent a revived surge in infections. The Joint Police Commissioner announced the extension of the restrictions on Tuesday. Under the provisions of Section 144, protests, rallies and demonstrations of all kinds stand prohibited till August 5. As per reports, loudspeakers will not be allowed to function at religious places from 10 PM to 6 AM.
Additionally, only 50 people will be permitted at wedding events and religious centres. Besides, it is pertinent to practice all necessary COVID protocols, which include masking and proper social distancing.
Though the case tallies have dipped down significantly in the past few weeks, COVID-appropriate behaviour is the need of the hour, if a third wave has to be prevented. While the officials are taking sufficient measures, it is equally important for the citizens to ensure cooperation.
15 cases and 13 recoveries were marked on Tuesday in Lucknow. Currently, the city has 167 active patients while Uttar Pradesh houses 2,032 active cases. As of now, 2,38,393 individuals have been affected by the deadly virus while a total of 2,651 deaths have been logged in the city.
