In a bid to promote public safety, with special focus on women and traders, 41 hi-tech CCTV cameras have been installed in Lucknow’s Telibagh market. As per reports, the stretch from Shani Mandir Square to Subhani Kheda here will now be under round the clock police surveillance. Notably, all CCTV cameras have night vision and are linked to the Telibagh Police station to ensure vigil 24x7.

New control room set up at Telibagh Police Station

A move undertaken by the Telibagh traders in Lucknow, the CCTV surveillance project is touted to keep a check on the rising rate of crimes against women, including violence and theft. The security devices will also help the police personnel to monitor other crimes at Telibagh Market, against traders and the general public too.

All CCTV cameras have been linked to a control room set up at the Telibagh Police Station. This room has been fixed with LED screens, under the authority of a cop to digitally patrol the area.

The areas under the CCTV radar include Shani Mandir intersection, Kumhar Mandi More, Defense Colony, Subhani Kheda in addition to other satellite areas. A total of ₹5 crores have been spent on this project in the last two months, Rajan Mishra, president of Telibagh Adarsh Vyapar Mandal informed.

Need to install CCTV-enabled security

Telibagh Market is one of the busiest markets in Lucknow, making theft and women security a major concern here. Moved by these issues, the Telibagh traders attended a meeting with ACP Cantt and proposed the installation of CCTV cameras and police cooperation to beef up security here.

Telibagh chauki in-charge Anuj Kumar Tiwari called the CCTV installation a commendable and necessary step taken by the Vyapar Mandal in conjunction with security arrangements. These cameras will help catch criminals, Tiwari added.

Plan to be implemented across other city markets too

Meanwhile during the "Traders- Police", last month, business leader Sanjay Gupta asked the Deputy Commissioner of Police to speed up the CCTV camera installation in other city markets too. For now, a similar course of action is being planned out for Bhootnath Market in Indira Nagar.

He further urged officials to take strict action against illegal encroachments. The vigil should specifically be higher in those markets where the Municipal Corporation has already removed such structure by means of targetted encroachment drive
