A dedicated team will soon be deployed on the highways in Lucknow to monitor and regulate traffic. This is a much-needed intervention taken by the authorities in a meeting held recently due to the growing problem of road blocks and jams. The new measures will help streamline and facilitate a stabilised flow of vehicles across Uttar Pradesh.
According to DGP DS Chauhan, a traffic enforcement team has been formed already. This squad will ensure strict compliance to all the rules. Immediate action will be taken against anyone found violating traffic rules.
Officials from the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and police officers have been asked to keep a vigil on vehicles outside restaurants and warehouses on the highway. All dhabas on the highway must have proper arrangements for parking so that the traffic stays unaffected. In addition to this, they will remove encroachments on Lucknow highways.
NHAI officers have been tasked to ensure all the dividers on the Lucknow-Kanpur Highway are constructed according to the prescribed standards. Irregular cuts will also be shut so that vehicles do not violate traffic rules. To ensure smooth flow of traffic round the clock, traffic personnel will be deployed in three different shifts to make up a 24-hour duty.
Additional Home Chief Secretary Awanish Kumar Awasthi has directed authorities to keep two big cranes handy. This is being done so that accidental vehicles and technically-unfit vehicles can be removed from the road when required.
The team on the highway has already received multiple PoS machines to collect traffic fines on the spot. Reportedly, the SOP for traffic diversion has also been drafted by the officials. As per the official spokesperson, the same will be issued in public interest after approval from top-level officers.
