For those who frequently travel between Lucknow and Kanpur, your commute time is about to get a whole lot shorter. The much-anticipated 6-lane Lucknow-Kanpur expressway, which is currently under construction, is expected to drastically reduce travel time to just 45-50 minutes.
Curious about the latest updates on the Lucknow-Kanpur expressway project? The National Highway Authorities of India (NHAI) are working tirelessly to create the much-needed intersections and interchanges to the outer ring roads of both cities.
With these new intersections, commuters will have access to a network of outer link roads that will allow them to switch routes with ease when entering either city via the expressway.
The construction work on the route interchanges of the outer ring roads of both Lucknow and Kanpur is currently underway.
In addition, NHAI has planned 3 intersections in the district of Unnao, each of which is designed to optimize traffic flow in the area. Furthermore, a fourth intersection has been planned to enable the smooth movement of vehicles from Unnao to the Kanpur outer ring road.
Notably, the NHAI is will construct the 6-lane Lucknow-Kanpur expressway to enhance the connectivity between two major cities in Uttar Pradesh. The 62.7 km long expressway, also known as National Expressway 6 (NE-6), will pass through 41 villages located between Lucknow, Unnao and Kanpur.
The expressway will connect Azad Chauraha, located near Kanpur's Ganga Bridge, to Shaheed Path in Lucknow, which will reduce travel time from the current 1.5 to 3 hours to only 45-50 minutes. The project is scheduled to be finished by early 2025.
