Street vendors and visitors to benefit from Lucknow's first Smart Vending Zone in Gomti Nagar!

Aditya Vikram

Lucknow is gearing up for a smart upgrade to its street food scenes with the introduction of a new vending zone near the Indira Gandhi Pratishthan in Gomti Nagar. This modernized zone will have a tiled flooring, benches for seating, and a greater emphasis on cleanliness, creating a more organized and comfortable space for both vendors and visitors.

A smarter approach to street food in Lucknow

The vending zone's design addresses long-standing issues, offering protection to shop owners from insufficient street lighting, rain, and other environmental challenges. Plans for shop allotment in the new zone have already been submitted to the Municipal Commissioner, and work is progressing swiftly.

Inauguration expected by October end

The entire vending zone has been designed with uniform shop themes to ensure a more systematic approach, reducing the chaos that previously plagued the area. Previously home to tea stalls, snacks, and street food vendors, the spot had turned unhygienic, particularly during the monsoon. With the improved infrastructure, visitors can look forward to a cleaner, more convenient experience when the zone opens by the end of October.

What do Lucknowites think of the upgrade?

We spoke with professionals working in IT companies near the upcoming vending zone, and the response is overwhelmingly positive. Anvesh Singh, a regular visitor to the old stalls, shared his thoughts: “I used to grab tea here during my breaks, but over time, the area became very unhygienic. Seeing this smart vending zone coming up is such a relief. I’m excited to come back once it’s ready!”

Gaurav Tripathi, another young professional who used to frequent the stretch earlier, shared, "Although my office has now shifted from the area, I still remember having Chinese food at a stall in that lane. Looking at the upgrade it is about to undergo, I'll definitely take some time out to revisit with my friends once it is ready".

With this exciting upgrade, we can expect Lucknow’s street food scene to head towards a more modern, cleaner future, offering a more pleasant experience for both locals and visitors alike.
