Somya Agarwal

To further improve law and order management in UP, government has announced the setting up of new cyber labs. As per reports, one lab each will be put together at 18 police ranges of the state to help UP police tackle cyber crime challenges better and expedite pending investigations.

The government has set aside a budget of ₹40 crore for the project in the first phase.

Faster redressal through high teck cyber labs

Until now, only one cyber lab was functional at Lucknow’s Forensic Science Lab. A cyber lab is equipped with essential paraphernalia which fastens the tracking process. For example, locked mobile phones can be encrypted in seconds for password recovery and data decryption. Each lab possess gadgets such as forensic disk imaging tool, media content indexing tool, software programmes required for digital forensic evidence investigation, among others.

Besides, dedicated cyber help desks are now being set up at all police stations in UP.
