Strong winds & rain improve Lucknow's air quality; AQI falls to 93

A 'satisfactory' level of AQI (93), was recorded at 11 AM in Gomti Nagar today.

After experiencing strong winds and incessant rainfall yesterday, folks in Lucknow were in for another shower of rain, today. While this brought a major relief from the unrelenting heatwave leaving people feeling fresher and rejuvenated, it also revived Lucknow's lungs once again!

What does that mean, you ask? Well, the drastic weather change has also impacted the Lucknow's air quality. A 'satisfactory' level of AQI at 93 was recorded at 11 AM in Gomti Nagar today.

Lowest AQI reported at Kukrail 

In the last two days, the air quality index of Lucknow has improved significantly, ensuring that the air that we breathe becomes a little more breathable.

As per the report released by the CPCB on Sunday, with 117 AQI, the air quality in Lucknow was in moderate condition. However, it went down to a satisfactory condition post rains on Monday by coming down to 97 on the AQI.

With light showers of rain on Tuesday again, the air quality in Lucknow further improved to a satisfactory level at 93 AQI.

Going by the reports, on Monday, the lowest AQI in Lucknow was marked at Kukrail Picnic Spot at 45, which is tagged as a 'good' level. On the other hand, even on Monday, the AQI at Talkatora Industrial area stood at a moderate level of 196.

LMC to install 12 Air Quality Monitors

Under the ambit of the Smart City scheme, Lucknow is all set to get new Air Quality Monitors now. At present, the city has Air Quality Monitors at 6 places in the city. This includes- Ambedkar University, Kendriya Vidyalaya Aliganj, Talkatora, Lalbagh, Gomti Nagar and Kukrail.

Lucknow Municipal Corporation will now install two such monitors in each zone, that is, Hazratganj, Alambagh, LDA Colony, Aishbagh, Thakurganj, Aliganj, Indiranagar and Gomti Nagar.

With the help of these instruments, the air quality in Lucknow will now be monitored along with the status of PM 2, 5, PM 10, NO 2, SO 2.

As per experts, this instrument can check the condition of the air within a 5 km radius. These additional monitors will help in keeping note of the air quality in Lucknow. Based on these, the administration will be able to undertake more informed measures to keep a check on the quality of air in the city.
