Muharram, the first month of the Muslim calendar, began on July 31, 2022, with Azadari commemorating the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Mohammad. Yaum-e-Ashura, the 10th day of Muharram, will be observed in the city on August 9, marking the culmination of Muharram.
Muharram processions in Lucknow are being taken out after a gap of two long years, thanks to COVID. City folks have started commemorating the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain. In order to maintain the law and order, Lucknow Police has imposed traffic restrictions that will remain in place till the culmination of Ashura processions today.
Reportedly, the city police has also released helpline number for emergencies regarding movement of vehicles like ambulances and school vans. Citizens can call on +91 94544 05155 and +91 63893 04141 for any queries or help in getting through the traffic in case of an emergency.
Traffic movement restrictions to and from Pucca Pul crossing, Bada Imambada, Rumi Gate and Chhota Imambada (Chowk area):
Traffic from Victoria street trisection will not be allowed toward Nakhas and Haiderganj trisection and will be diverted towards Saadatganj.
Traffic from the KGMU crossing towards Nakhas will be diverted towards Chowk.
Vehicles from the Rakabganj crossing will not be allowed towards Nakhas and will be diverted towards KGMU and Naka.
Vehicular movement Nakhas trisection towards Victoria street will go towards Rakabganj.
Traffic from Haiderganj trisection towards Nakhas and Bulakki Adda will move towards Aisabagh.
Vehicles from Mill area trisection will not be allowed towards Eveready trisection and move towards Rajajipuram.
Traffic from Mavaiya towards Eveready trisection will be diverted towards Alambagh.
Diversions for the Mahanagar area:
City buses from Faizabad road will not be allowed towards Badshahnagar and will be diverted towards Gomtinagar.
Vehicular movement from Hazratganj to Mahanagar will be restricted and diverted towards Kapoorthala, Hanuman Setu and Gomtinagar.
Traffic from the Mahanagar post office crossing will not be allowed towards Badshahnagar and will be diverted towards 35PAC headquarters.
Vehicles from Nishatganj will not be allowed towards Badshahnagar and will be diverted towards the Mahanagar crossing.
Diversions in other areas of Lucknow:
Traffic from Lekhraj market trisection will not be allowed towards Badshahnagar and diverted towards Nilgiri and Gomtinagar.
Vehicular movement from Telibagh flyover to Telibagh market will be diverted towards Bangla Bazar.
