For the first time in Lucknow, voters got to use a green polling booth in UP Assembly Election 2022

Upholding the pillars of civic rights and moral duties, Lucknow goes green this election!

For the first time during Assembly Elections in UP, the residents of Lucknow got to cast their vote in a green polling booth on Wednesday in the fourth phase of the UP Assembly Election 2022. Set up at A P Sen P.G College in Charbagh, this Model Green Booth operated with alternative energy thereby ensuring zero-carbon emission. Read on to know more about this environment-friendly initiative undertaken by the Election Commission.

Multiple facilities to assist voters

In order to enhance the voting experience, the Model Green Booth was equipped with multiple facilities to assist the voters, when necessary. There was a golf cart and an e-rickshaw to help people reach the polling room without facing any inconvenience. With the help of the Sewa Deep Organisation, the polling booth also had drinking water available in earthen pots and kulhads.

According to District Election Officer Abhishek Prakash, this move is aimed to encourage people across the state and country to protect the environment by adopting a sustainable lifestyle. Reportedly, from lights to charging polling officers' phones, the entire booth was operating by using solar energy.

To attract people towards an environmentally friendly way of life, the Lucknow Municipal Corporation had set up an exhibition of various kinds of flowers at this booth. Apart from this, awareness for environmental protection was also imparted to the voters who came in to cast their votes at this booth. In addition to this, a 90-year old voter, an 18-year old first-time voter and the Presiding Officer of the green booth took part in the plantation drive at this Model Green Booth.

Moreover, the booth was well-equipped with all the necessary COVID measures to ensure a safe polling experience for all. Marking the completion of the fourth phase of the UP Assembly Election 2022, Lucknow reported an average polling percentage of 60.05% on Wednesday.
