For the prevention and early stage diagnosis of serious, non-communicable diseases (NCDs) like heart-related ailments, cancer, diabetes etc., the UP government is currently running a statewide National Programme for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Diseases and Stroke (NPCDCS) under the National Healthcare Mission.

Reportedly, the campaign was already under progress in 15 UP districts. Now, the state deputy CM has instructed the healthcare officials associated with the NPCDCS campaign to expand its scope to 15 more districts including Lucknow and Kanpur.

Campaign underway in 15 UP districts

Under the NPCDCS campaign, NCD Cells have been set-up at national, state and district levels for programme management. With this, NCD clinics have also been established in 15 UP districts to provide services for early diagnosis, treatment and follow-up for common NCDs.

Provision has been made under the programme to provide free diagnostic facilities and drugs for patients attending the NCD clinics. Cardiac Care Units (CCUs) are also being set up in identified districts for providing facilities for emergency cardiac care. Furthermore, day care centres have been set up to provide similar facilities for cancer care.
