The Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation had launched a 'one-time settlement' scheme for rural and urban households and farmers, who have to pay huge sums of pending electricity bills. As per the latest developments, the deadline for registrations under this project has been extended to April 15 to ensure that an increased number of individuals are able to avail of its benefits. Through this initiative, a consumer can pay the outstanding amount in instalments.

An initiative to provide relief to the consumers post the pandemic

Affected by the stalled circumstances amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the common citizen faced multiple difficulties in the management of his/her perturbed finances. Due to this, many citizens could not pay their electricity bills adhering to the stated deadline. Given this situation, the OTS plan by the power corporation brings relief for domestic consumers in rural and urban areas and the farmers. Initiated on March 1, registrations under this scheme were open till March 31, which has been extended now.

Under this program, a consumer will have to pay 30% of the pending fee and the current bill amount upon registration. After this, he/she can pay the remaining sum in multiple instalments. As a part of this scheme, individuals also stand a chance of getting the surcharge completely waived off from their bill amounts.

Destabilising multiple lives across all sections of society, the COVID pandemic brought a string of harsh effects. While most of the restrictions have been relaxed, it is a long time ahead till the ordinary times are restored completely. In such a situation, it becomes pertinent for the authorities to execute measures of a similar kind which can be helpful for the citizens.
