In addition to offering an easier intracity commute, UP Metro is known for its efforts for sustainable development that supports the ecosystem. Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation's initiatives for water conservation also come under the ambit of the same commitment.

While talking to Knocksense, an official of UPMRC informed that there are more than 300 pits at the viaducts in Lucknow Metro. 17 other pits are set up at the metro stations in the Capital City. In Kanpur, there are a total of 200 pits at viaducts and one pit each at every metro station. On average, each pit can hold around 6,500 litres of water. In total, there are more than 525 pits in the state that have the holding capacity to save almost 35 lakh litres of water every year.
