A paradigm shift has hit the school syllabus in the state of Uttar Pradesh, which has now tapped on to the men to contribute their bit to empower the women. The state government is moving towards making women self-reliant, confident, and ensuring their safety and respect and this cannot be achieved without a colossal change in the education system, and UP is well on its way!

In the first phase of the campaign, which was carried on till October 25, the higher education department created awareness among 5,57,883 students in 6,349 colleges through webinars, awareness programmes and competitions. For the next phase, a micro plan is being developed, under which a dedicated portal, detailing through information about the programmes and the responsible departments will be uploaded. The new system will provide all the necessary information and schemes being run for women and girls.

The campaign will further encourage maximum participation of women in schemes related to public welfare. Dedicated emphasis will be laid on the orientation of skill development among women which will will open various employment opportunities for them. Further, the decision to include women empowerment in the curriculum of Basic Education and Secondary Education has been hailed by parents and social workers.

Mission Shakti has already conducted various awareness programmes in several colleges of Uttar Pradesh for nine days. The programmes were organised in 6,349 colleges in which 5,57,383 pupils, both girls and boys and around 1,46,177 teachers took an oath to ensure women's safety and respect. This programme has also trained about 4,46,355 female students from 3,007 colleges in martial arts, the technique of self defence by a fused channel of online and offline workshops.

Besides this, around 2,57,407 girls participated in Essay, Poster, Slogan and Quiz competitions. 2,42,036 girl students and 14,364 teachers from 2,731 colleges participated in physical health enhancement and nutrition awareness programmes. In a webinar related to gender equality, domestic violence protection, POCSO Act, women's helpline, 1,783 experts in 2,986 colleges informed 3,13,996 students about these issues.

A move approved by parents-

This is a 360 degree program that not only gives a voice to women but also encourages the men to listen to that voice. Structuring young minds to absorb the neutrality of gender in terms of respect and opportunity is the only was to nip biases at its core. The citizens and parents surely stand in appreciation of this novel education policy and hope that it brings a change in the society, with a sense of equality among genders.
