You're leisure-walking in the lanes of Hazratganj and spot a lil booth-like set-up on a cycle. Even though Ganj is full of such street hawkers, this one will particularly grab your attention. What is unique about 'Main Burger King' is the humble chef in his 60s, Shyam Sundar himself, who'll greet you with the most contagious smile. On a large charred tawa, he will be warming up pizzas and hotdogs for you but the best part? The nibbles are delicious!
"I can bake the most heavenly cakes for your birthdays," Shyam Sundar Tiwari, donning a striking pink turban, tells Knocksense.
"Puttar, I am a trained baker and used to work at big restaurants in Chandigarh. I have also travelled to Singapore, Malaysia and Canada through the companies I used to work at. They liked my skills as a master chef/baker," he shares his life story.
Hailing from Rajasthan's Udaipur, Shyam Sundar Tiwari also serves as a pandit-pujari at the nearby temple apart from running his food kiosk. The man has been running this lil business for the past 8-10 years in Lucknow.
"Mai breads ka mahir aadmi hu. I make various breads — sugar-free, specially for patients, aata bread and more. I came back to Lucknow from Chandigarh and my bakery business failed. Thus, you can see me as a street hawker now," his tale takes a poignant turn.
However, even though tragedy dictated a lot of his life, Shyam Sundar Tiwari keeps his head high, doesn't consider any work to be small or big and continues serving people with a smile — something we appreciate highly.
Celebrating the taste of Main Burger King, we recommend you to try the kulcha, pav and burgers here when in Ganj! Extremely inexpensive, the hotdogs here are merely for ₹30, pizzas for ₹50 and burgers ranging from ₹20-₹40 depending on the size.
After 7 PM, you can find 'Main Burger King' at Janpath. However during the day, he travels to numerous places like GPO, Christ Church, behind Multi-Level Parking of Ganj, etc.
