This World Environment Day, if you adopt an eco-friendly lifestyle, don't you worry, you won't be alone in this endeavour! For the recently elected urban local bodies have refashioned the WED into a 'Lifestyle Day', where people will be educated about the benefits of adopting a sustainable lifestyle. Such a lifestyle entails steering clear of plastic, using sustainable products, following the three Rs, reducing energy usage, planting trees, amongst many other healthy practises.

The World Environment Day 2023, celebrated since 1974 annually on June 5, is a reminder that people’s actions around the environment matter and has its protection and awareness at its centre.

What will transpire on 'Lifestyle Day'

Besides taking an oath, the agenda of the day will include activities like essay writing, wall painting, debate and painting competitions in various school across the state. The events will all revolve around the themes of environment and sustainable lifestyle.

Moreover, with an aim of transitioning into a circular economy, triple RRR centres have also been set up in urban areas where you can donate unused items like clothes, electronics, books, and so on. Herein, the municipal corporation will directly collect the items from households.

The aforementioned dedicated RRR centres (reduce, reuse and recycle) will be installed under the 'Meri Life, Mera Swachh Shehar' campaign.
