In a bid to compensate for the loss of green cover around the upcoming Mopa International Airport, the Goa government has joined hands with the centre's Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education. On Wednesday, the Chief Minister informed that nearly five lakh saplings will be planted along the regions, which witnessed a significant loss of trees due to the ongoing airport project at Mopa Plateau in North Goa.

Stepping ahead with its plans, the Goa administration has partnered with the Indian Council Of Forestry Research and Education. Now, the two bodies will together work on interventions for fueling a green revamp for the regions encircling the airport. The CM said, "The cabinet has cleared the proposal. Five lakh trees will be planted as compensation for the trees cut at the Mopa international airport site."
Notably, the trees will be looked after by the collaborative efforts of the two organisations in the future. Speaking in the Goa legislative assembly, the CM stated that 54,176 trees were cut across parts of the Mopa Plateau earlier this year, for materialising the plans under the airport project.

Being established with the synergic efforts of GMR and the state government, the airport will cater to a large count of air travellers in the future. It is expected that an approximate amount of ₹2.615 crores will be spent for the completion of this project. Further, it has been informed that the first phase of the Mopa International Airport will be commissioned by August 2022.
