Kamalesh Kumbhar, who is a resident of Yamagarni in Karnataka, goes on a 'Wari Padayatra' to Pandharpur in Maharashtra, every year. When he went on his annual journey in June this year, his dog "Maharaj" followed him. Unfortunately, the ageing animal got lost in the crowded town.
After looking for his lost pet for days, a disheartened Kamalesh returned to him village in Karnataka in July. Little did he know that a pleasant surprise was in store for him. The very next day, he found his Indie dog standing at his doorstep, in a well-fed and healthy state.
Crossing state borders, the dog made his 250 km-long journey back home to the owner's village in Karnataka's Belagavi district, from the point where he was lost in Maharashtra. Yes, you read that right! Without anyone to accompany him, Maharaj took the long road home to reunite with his beloved parent.
For Kamalesh and his entire village, the return of Maharaj was no less than a miracle. The dog was garlanded and a grand feast was also held in his honour. As for the owner himself, he called this pleasant surprise a blessing from 'Lord Panduranga'.
