Aug 12-17 | Sir Hyacinth Nazareth Memorial Hockey Tournament kicks off in Bandra!

The tournament aims to reignite interest in hockey among the youth.

The United Bandra Sports Club has brought in Sir Hyacinth Nazareth Memorial Hockey Tournament to Mumbai, in honour of Sir Hyacinth Nazareth, one of the city’s most illustrious hockey figures. This event will run from August 12 till 17 at St. Andrews Turf Ground in Bandra. Teams will be competing across a variety of categories: Under 14 Boys and Girls, Under 16 Boys, Men’s and Women’s Open, Men’s Club, and Men’s Veterans.

As captain of the Mumbai University team that clinched the 1973 All India Inter-Varsity Hockey Championship, Sir Hyacinth Nazareth’s leadership was nothing short of iconic. He made significant contributions to the Sub Junior Nationals Mumbai Team and the Reserve Bank of India Team as well. His commitment to hockey also led to the establishment of the grass hockey ground at St. Andrews School in Bandra.

Moreover, as per reports, the United Bandra Sports Club has successfully raised ₹3 lakhs from team members, family, and friends, for the successful hosting of the event. All in all, this tournament aims to reignite interest in hockey throughout Mumbai, specially among the young crowd.
