Get ready for a smoother travel experience! Mumbai Coastal Road (MCR) is gearing up for its second phase launch connecting Marine Drive to Haji Ali on June 10 (tentatively). Moreover, by October, the entire 8-lane, 29.2 km stretch, linking the Bandra-Worli Sea Link to Marine Drive, will be fully operational.

This announcement comes at a time when the first phase of the coastal road, inaugurated in March 2024, is facing a leaky hiccup -- particularly in the southbound tunnel at the Marine Drive end.

During a recent inspection, leakages were identified in two to three expansion joints and proposed to be plugged with polymer grouting. As Mumbai braces for the rainy season from June 10, all eyes are on the coastal road's performance.

Once fully operational, the new MCR promises relief from Mumbai's traffic congestion, offering a wider and faster route. Cutting travel time between South Mumbai and the western suburbs to just 40 minutes from 2 hours, MCR is set to accommodate 130,000 vehicles daily.
