Heavy vehicles weighing 16 tonnes or more are prohibited from entering Greater Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane

The Ganpati festival, which started across Maharashtra with much pomp and show on September 19, will conclude with the immersion of idols on Anant Chaturdashi, September 28.

Mumbai is known for its spectacular processions during Ganesh Visarjan. As huge gatherings are expected across the city today, Mumbai Police has issued an advisory for uninterrupted traffic movement and maintaining law and order.These traffic restrictions in Mumbai will be enforced from 11 am on September 28, till 1:00 am on September 29.

According to the advisory issued by Mumbai Traffic Police, heavy vehicles weighing 16 tonnes or more are prohibited from entering Greater Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane during the specified period. This restriction also encompasses the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, the old Mumbai-Pune Highway and the Mumbai-Goa Highway.

However, certain essential services vehicles, such as those transporting vegetables, bakery products, milk, drinking water and oil tankers, will remain exempted from the restrictions. Further ambulances, government and semi-government vehicles as well as school buses, will be allowed to operate.

Roads to remain closed in Mumbai on Ganpati Visarjan

Several roads across the city will remain closed during the mentioned period to facilitate the smooth conduct of processions. These roads include Captain Prakash Pethe Marg, Nathalal Parekh Marg, CSMT Junction to Metro Junction, J. S. S. Road, Rambhau Salgaokar Marg, Vitthalbhai Patel Marg, Rajaram Mohan Roy Road, Cawasji Patel Tank Road, Babasaheb Jaykar Marg, Sant Sena Marg, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Road, Nanubhai Desai Road, Dadasaheb Bhadkamkar Marg, Pandita Ramabai Marg, Walkeshwar Road, Jagannath Shankarsheth Marg, Patthe Bapurao Marg, M.S.Ali Marg, Taddeo Marg, NM Joshi Marg, Jahangir Boman Behram Marg, B. J Marg, Mirza Ghalib Marg, Bellasis Road, Maulana Azad Road, Maulana Shaukat Ali Road, Chinchpokli Junction to Gas Company, Dr B. A. Road, Bhoiwada Naka to Hindmata Junction, Swatantryaveer Savarkar Marg, KEM Road, Ranade Road, Jambhekar Maharaj Marg, Sant Dnyaneshwar Mandir Road, Keluskar Road South Marg, 60 Feet Road Dharavi, Mahim-Sion Link Road, Tilak Swimming Pool, T.H. Kataria Marg, L. B. S. Marg, New Mill Road Kurla, Matunga Labour Camp Road, and Sant Rohidas Marg.

Over 11,000 police personnel will be deployed throughout the city to ensure the safety of residents and visitors during the Visarjan. Commuters are advised to plan their journeys accordingly to avoid traffic congestion.
