The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued Yellow Alert for Mumbai, Thane and Palghar districts in wake of expected heavy rainfalls during the weekend. As per forecasts, the southwest trade winds will pick up moisture starting June 18, intensely impacting the monsoon activity in Maharashtra on Sunday. Check out the IMD advisory issued for the same:

Possible flooding & water logging expected

Mumbai is likely to get its first heavy bout of this monsoon season on Sunday. Reportedly, an overcast sky, squally weather conditions, and winds speeding at 40-50 kmph with 60 kmph gusts are expected to make up the city forecast on June 19 and 20.

In line with this, the IMD has issued an advisory for the people, warning them about possible flooding and water-logging in low lying areas, temporarily disrupting the public transport in the city. Additionally, a seperate warning has been issued for the fishermen from venturing out into the sea on June 20.

Rains block commute in Kurla

Mumbai on Thursday experience moderate rainfalls, washing respite from the heat. Several parts of the city, namely Kurla, Bandra, Khar, Kandivali and Boriwali witnessed isolated light to heavy rains and pleasant weather in the last 24 hours. These continuous showers also caused water logging in several low-lying regions of Kurla, inconveniencing public commute and travel for the day.

What is Yellow Alert?

As per IMD, the warning means 'to keep a watch' on the weather and calls for administrators to 'Be Updated'. This is associated with weather events that can presently pose relatively less harm but have the potential to cause impact. Forecasts of thunderstorms, heavy rains, strong winds, heat or cold waves, and rough sea conditions can all lead to this alert.
