After two days of heavy, crippling rains and a largely rain-free Friday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Alert for Mumbai and Thane for today, predicting light to moderate rainfall. Neighbouring districts such as Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Pune, and Satara are under an orange alert for Saturday, indicating heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated areas. However, the IMD has not issued any Orange Alert for Maharashtra from July 28 to 30.
Despite the rain warnings, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced that schools and colleges in Mumbai and its suburbs will remain open today. In contrast, the Thane Municipal Corporation has declared a holiday for all educational institutions within its jurisdiction. Additionally, Mumbai University has postponed all exams in Raigad and Ratnagiri due to the severe weather forecast.
