Offering relief to ration cardholders, the administration has now extended the deadline of linking Aadhaar card with ration cards across India. Notably, this is not the first time that this deadline has been extended by the government. The earlier deadline of this service was December 31, 2021 however it was later extended to March 31, 2022. With another extension now, the last day to link the cards is now set at June 30, 2022.

Move in sync with the ONORC scheme

Notably, with the help of ration cards, a lot of people get many benefits from various government schemes. By linking the Aadhar card with the ration card, the authorities simply want to ensure that no eligible beneficiary misses their share of food grains and other benefits. Another reason behind this is to ensure migrants and temporary workers get their share of subsidised items under the National Food Security Act, irrespective of where they are.

Talking about One Nation One Ration Card scheme a government official said, "There are 80 crore beneficiaries under this scheme. As of mid-February, as many as 96 per cent beneficiaries had been enrolled under ONORC. Several states have to catch up to make this 100 per cent and therefore, this extension has been given for another three months"

While people will be able to avail these benefits till June 30 without linking both their cards, after this deadline only those who have linked their ration card with Aadhaar card will be able to reap the benefits of such schemes. One can link their cards online on the official Aadhar website or go to the nearest Ration Card Centre to link the cards in an offline mode.
