The much-anticipated yet long-delayed Mumbai-Goa Highway, a crucial infrastructure project connecting the two regions, is making significant strides towards completion. According to National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) officials, the 84-kilometre stretch between Panvel and Indapur of this 555-km long highway, is on track for full completion by December 2024. Once operational, the highway is reportedly set to enhance connectivity and reduce travel time between the two regions to just 6 hours (Panvel to Goa).

Progress details of the Panvel-Indapur stretch

The 84-kilometer segment is divided into two packages. Package one, spanning 42.3 km from Panvel to Kasu, has achieved over 85% physical progress, with 39 km of road concreting and 9 km of parallel service road concreting already finished. Additionally, vehicular underpass work at Gadab in Pen Taluka is progressing steadily.

The second package, from Kasu to Indapur, covering another 42.3 km, has seen the previous contractor complete 26.67 km of four-lane work. The remaining work has been awarded to Kalyan Toll Infra Pvt Ltd, with 45% of physical progress achieved so far.

While the entire 555-km Mumbai-Goa highway, with 460 km falling within Maharashtra, is a collaborative effort between the NHAI and the state Public Works Department, the completion of this 84-km stretch will mark a significant milestone in the long-delayed project.

As the monsoon season approaches, the contractors are maintaining completed portions to ensure smooth traffic flow and taking necessary precautions for uninterrupted progress. With a completion target set for December 2024, the Mumbai-Goa Highway costing ₹44,000 crores, is poised to enhance connectivity and ease travel between the two major regions.
