To boost voter participation in the Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2024, a mandatory holiday has been declared for all Mumbai employees on Wednesday, November 20. Mumbai District Election Officer and BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani confirmed the announcement. He also emphasized that employees taking leave to vote will not face any salary deductions.

The order applies to all establishments, industries, and corporations. If a full-day leave cannot be granted, employees must be given at least four hours of time off with prior permission from the election officer.

The Election Commission aims to increase voter turnout, especially among urban voters. Employers who violate the rule will face penalties under the Representation of the People Act, 1951.
