The eagerly awaited Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail project is poised to revolutionise travel within the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). The National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) has revealed that the new bullet train will slash the journey time between Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) and Boisar, via Thane and Virar, to just 36 minutes, a significant reduction from the current 90-minute trip.

This new service is poised to greatly enhance convenience for both daily commuters and tourists.

New avenues for growth and tourism

This ambitious project will not only link major cities but also shrink the distance between far-flung suburbs, unlocking new opportunities for work, leisure, and development.

The bullet train service will feature two options: a fast variant with limited stops and a slower one, that mirrors Mumbai’s local trains by halting at every station. Operations are slated to begin in Gujarat by late 2027, with plans to extend to Maharashtra soon after.

The Boisar station, now under construction, seamlessly blends modern design with cultural heritage, featuring a façade inspired by traditional Konkani fishing nets. Positioned strategically on the Boisar-Chillar State Highway and just 6 km from Boisar’s Western Railway Station, it will offer easy access for commuters.

The two-storey station will be equipped with amenities like lounges, waiting rooms, first aid services, and ample parking. It is set to become a key transport hub, facilitating both industrial activity and tourism, with nearby attractions like Chinchani Beach and the Mahalakshmi Temple poised to benefit from increased accessibility.

As part of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail project, the Boisar Bullet Train Station is expected to drive significant economic growth, bringing suburbs closer and opening up fresh avenues for development.
