Mumbai's eagerly awaited Metro 3, the Aqua Line, is inching closer to operation as it gears up for loaded integrated trials next week. The integrated trials are set to commence next week along the Phase 1 Aarey-Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) route.

Unlike previous dry runs, these trials will involve filling each coach, of the eight-car train, with stone-filled gunny bags to simulate passenger weight, ensuring optimal functionality under operational conditions. Safety remains a top priority, with thorough testing crucial before opening to the public, as emphasised by government officials. Following these trials, the Research, Design and Safety Organisation (RDSO) and the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) will scrutinise additional parameters.

The project, at 96% completion, focuses on station beautification and minor works, with 260 services poised to serve an estimated 17 lakh daily passengers upon completion. Phase 2 progress and advancements in automation reflect the metro's cutting-edge technology and commitment to enhancing urban mobility.

Phase 1, spanning from Aarey to Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), is set to launch by May-end, while Phase 2, extending to Cuffe Parade, aims for operation by October. This milestone project, costing ₹37,000 Cr, promises enhanced operational efficiency and multimodal integration for Mumbai commuters.
