Mumbai's newly aligned CD Barfiwala Flyover and Gopal Krishna Gokhale Bridge will open for light motor vehicles from Andheri towards Juhu, at 5 pm on Thursday. BMC has received the ‘Non-Objection Certificate’ from Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI) after two important tests (non-destructive and ‘Q’) were conducted on Phase I - North Side.
Other ancillary tests and trials related to traffic management will be completed in the next two days, before launch.
This route has captured widespread attention recently. On July 1, the Barfiwala Flyover, connecting Juhu to Gokhale Bridge, briefly opened before being abruptly closed just 30 minutes later. BMC cited that unidentified individuals had removed barricades at the Andheri (W) entry point.
Access to light weight vehicles only
The work of the second phase of the Gokhale Bridge is currently underway in the railway area. Currently, only light vehicles are allowed on Barfiwala and Gokhale bridges, with height barriers installed to restrict heavy vehicles. Access for heavy vehicles will resume upon completion of Phase 2.
