COVID-19 cases seem to be on a rise in Mumbai since the start of May, sparking concerns about the beginning of the fourth wave in the city. With 350 fresh cases on Thursday, Mumbai closed the day with the highest infection load since February 11. This figure also marks a steep rise from Wednesday’s tally of 295 cases, which was the highest in 3 months.

The beginning of fourth wave?

According to BMC, Mumbai logged in a 104-day COVID high on Thursday to register 350 fresh infections and zero deaths. The daily recoveries marginally lagged behind at 223, pushing the cumulative recovery tally to a 10,42,697. With this, Mumbai has managed a remarkable recovery rate of 98%, limiting the active caseload at 1,658.

Though the rate of hospitalisation is low, signifying a lower number of critical cases, the positivity rate in Mumbai is at a high 3.17%. This points at a clear 52.79% rise in COVID-19 patients in Mumbai, the highest across Maharashtra in the past week.

Mask-on, Maharashtra!

On Thursday, Maharastra logged in a worrisome 511 infections, pushing the state’s cumulative caseload to a grim 78,84,839. This is the biggest single-day surge since in COVID-19 cases since March 5. A total of 324 patients recovered from the virus on Thursday, marking a decline in the state’s active caseload to 2,361.

Amid the unprecedented surge of COVID-19 cases in Maharastra, the Chief Minister on Thursday appealed to the people to not lower the pandemic guard, wear masks, maintain social distancing and take all necessary precautions to prevent the spread.
