Mumbai experienced an unexpected chill on Wednesday night, marking its second coldest November night in seven years. The temperature dropped to a brisk 18.5°C at the Santacruz weather station, as reported by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The last time Mumbai experienced such a chill was in 2017, with the mercury falling to 18°C. The record for the coldest November night in recent years, however, belongs to 2022, when temperatures plunged to a brisk 17°C.

Cooler nights, warm days, AQI moderate

The coastal metropolis, known for its typically warm and humid climate, saw temperatures significantly below normal, with the Colaba coastal observatory registering 23°C.

IMD officials attribute the temperature drop to western disturbances and snowfall in northern India. The Weather Department forecasts that these cooler nights will persist for the next few days, with minimum temperatures expected to fluctuate between 19 and 21°C.

While the chilly weather has brought relief to citizens from Mumbai's characteristic heat, a temperature rise is anticipated from November 25. The daytime temperatures remained moderate, with both suburban and island city areas recording maximum temperatures between 33 and 34°C.

While the city enjoys the cooler air, the air quality remains in the "moderate" category at 150, with a slight pollution level that could cause discomfort for sensitive individuals.
