Following a week of heavy downpour, Mumbai is experiencing subdued showers this week, with rainfall intensity expected to decrease further, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). While Mumbai and neighbouring Thane are under a Yellow Alert for Thursday and Friday, no alerts have been issued for Saturday, with moderate showers forecasted.

Despite an Orange warning in place until Wednesday, Mumbai only experienced light showers, leading the IMD to downgrade the alert to Yellow. However, heavy rainfall is anticipated in isolated pockets of Mumbai and Thane between Thursday and Friday, before transitioning to moderate showers.

High tide looms as rain alert persists across Maharashtra

On Thursday morning, heavy rains led to waterlogging in parts of Mumbai. The city recorded 83 mm of rainfall, with more intense showers in the island city compared to the suburbs. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) expects a high tide of about 3.23 meters at 9:35 PM today. The IMD also forecasts moderate to heavy rain for Mumbai in the next 24 hours.

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has extended the yellow alert for Mumbai until July 19. Additionally, an Orange Alert has been issued for heavy to very heavy rains in Thane and Palghar today. Across Maharashtra, an orange alert is in effect for several districts, including Raigad and Pune, while a red alert has been issued for Ratnagiri, predicting extremely heavy rainfall in isolated areas.
