Mumbai's first underground metro line to begin service in September? Here's what we know!

Aditya Vikram

The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) has invited the Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) to inspect and approve the Mumbai Metro 3 Line, aka, the Aqua Line. Once the approval is received, the MMRCL is planning to start operations of Phase 1 of the Aqua Line in September itself.

Notably, the CMRS will conduct inspections on a range of factors, including the braking system, fire safety, signalling systems, rolling stock integration, and spanning tracks to check if the metro line meets all the necessary safety standards.

Furthermore, comprehensive trail runs will be conducted that will be closely monitored by the CMRS. Once Phase 1 of the Aqua Line receives a go-ahead on all these fronts, MMRCL will speed up the process to make the metro line operational, as soon as possible.

Connecting Aarey Colony and BKC, Phase 1 of Mumbai Metro Line 3 will feature 10 stations, stretching across 12 km.
