Mumbai’s Metro Line 7A to bolster airport connectivity by 2026 end; know key features!

Over 52% complete, it will be the 3rd metro line to reach CSMIA.

Zeal Jani

Passengers travelling from the Mira Bhayandar region and western suburbs to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) have something to look forward to—a 60-minute reduction in travel time! The highly anticipated Metro Line 7A project, spearheaded by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), is on track for completion by December 2026.

This ambitious project is set to transform airport connectivity, making it the third metro line to directly reach CSMIA, alongside the existing Metro Line 1 and the upcoming Metro Line 3. With Metro Line 7A in the works, travelling to the airport will soon be faster, easier, and more convenient for Mumbaikars.

A 3.423 km extension of Metro Line 7

As an extension of Metro Line 7, which currently operates between Andheri (East) and Dahisar (East), the new line will span 3.423 kilometres and include both elevated and underground sections. The southern extension will offer a direct link between Andheri (East) and the airport, ensuring a seamless travel experience for airport-bound passengers.

Despite facing significant challenges, over 52% of the construction work has been completed, marking a significant milestone toward the project's completion by the end of 2026.

Integration with Metro Line 3 and Metro Line 8

Once operational, Metro Line 7A will provide direct access to the airport from the Mira Bhayandar region and western suburbs, drastically cutting travel time. The line will integrate seamlessly with Metro Line 3 and the future Metro Line 8, contributing to a more cohesive and efficient transportation network across the city.

The project also includes plans for an underground station near Terminal 2, close to the CSMIA Metro Line 3 Station, as well as an elevated station at Airport Colony.
