The Worli-Sewri Elevated Connector (WSEC) is expected to start functioning by April, 2024. Covering nearly 4.5 kms, the connector will proposedly provide a 15% ease in traffic dispersion from Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL). Binding MTHL, Bandra, Worli Sea Link and the Coastal Road, it will provide direct and signal-free travel, hence reduce travel time. The estimated cost of the project is ₹1,276 crore.

Reportedly, the project will incorporate up and down ramps for current road network connectivity on R A Kidwai Marg and A D Marg.

24% of the work is complete

MMRDA began the construction of the elevated connector in November, 2020. So far, 24% of the connector has been built. Given the length of the elevated route i.e 4.5 kms, the project is highly complex to process as the alignment passes through some heavily congested areas, slums and cessed buildings.

Areas that the elevated connector will cross

The Sewri-Worli link commences from the Sewri interchange section of the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), crosses the Harbour railway line, the Acharya Donde Marg, the flyover at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Road, the Central Railway and Western Railway line at Elphinstone Road station, the flyover at Senapati Bapat Road, Jagannath Bhatankar Road, Kamgar Nagar, and Dr Annie Besant Road and finally ends at Narayan Hardikar Road in Worli.

MMRDA has relocated around 800 families from 1,100 slums in Worli’s Kangar Nagar to facilitate the construction of the Worli-Sewri Elevated Corridor. Given the number of traffic crossings and overcrowded areas that the elevated connector is supposed to pass, lets hope the project is completed within the estimated timeline.
