The inauguration of the 35-km stretch of Mumbai Metro’s 2A and 7 lines is scheduled for January 19, 2023. Apart from this, the 5.96-km metro stretch between Central Park and Belapur stations will also be launched on the same day.
The Prime Minister will inaugurate a smattering of other projects too, including sewage treatment plants, a cancer hospital in Thane and various roads across town.
On January 8, 2023, Metro Line 2A and Metro Line 7, were shut down for integration work. The 18.6 KM long, Metro Line 2A from Dahisar to DN Nagar with 17 stations connects Metro Line 1 (Ghatkopar to Versova), the ongoing Metro Lines 2B (DN Nagar to Mandale) and the Metro Line 6 (Swami Samarth Nagar to Vikhroli) as well as Metro Line Line 7.
Before inaugurating the first Phase, MMRDA will carry out drills to integrate systems such as public announcement systems, passenger information display systems, rolling stock with signaling capabilities, telecom and platform screen doors, among others, on these two lines.
Once fully operational, these two corridors will carry as many as 3 lakh people each day. Moreover, these lines are expected to carry over 11 lakh passengers in a day by 2031.
