Mumbai prepares for rising temperatures following IMD's heatwave warning

The IMD has warned of an approaching heatwave in several states, including Mumbai and its suburbs. Despite expected partly cloudy conditions, temperatures will sharply rise throughout the week. Mumbai may see a minimum of around 25°C and a maximum of about 35°C today. The week ahead is expected to maintain similar minimum temperatures, with a slight increase by Friday and Saturday, reaching up to 26°C, while maximum temperatures could hit 35°C and 36°C.

Special Summer Trains for Teachers from Dadar to Gorakhpur

During the summer peak, Central Railway will run two fully reserved special trains catering to teachers travelling from Dadar to Gorakhpur. Departing from Dadar at 2:05 PM on May 2, train 01101 will commence its journey, while train 01102 will depart Gorakhpur at 2:25 PM on June 10, arriving at Dadar on the third day. These trains offer various coach classes including AC-2 Tier, AC-3 Tier, Sleeper Class, and General Second Class. Booking opened exclusively at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Mumbai reservation center from March 31 at 2:30 PM.

MMRDA receives its inaugural four-coach trainset; eyes Mumbai Monorail revival

The arrival of an inaugural coach of the four-car mono train in Wadala Depot, overseen by Medha SMH Rail Pvt. Ltd., has fueled hopes for the revitalisation of Mumbai Monorail. The new monorail rakes will offer improved riding quality and also lead to an increase in frequencies. Ten other four-car trains are expected to arrive soon.

Further, MMRDA's decision to switch power suppliers from Tata Power to Adani Electricity for Monorail and Metro corridors 2A and 7, driven by Tata Power's tariff increase, also signals a significant transition.

BMC expands Weather Station Network in the city

BMC has expanded its network with 60 new automatic weather stations (AWS) across Mumbai, totaling 120. These stations monitor rainfall, temperature, humidity, wind speed, and direction. Data updates every 15 minutes on the civic disaster management portal, aiding residents in planning activities during the monsoon. Earlier, 60 AWS were at ward offices or fire stations, connected to a central server. The National Centre for Coastal Research (NCCR) recommended 97 more, but due to cost and security, only 60 were installed.

Construction of Navi Mumbai International Airport in India is progressing swiftly and is set to begin operations by March 31, 2025. With 63% completion, the airport features a unique lotus-inspired design. Under Adani Airport Holdings Limited, the project aims to ease congestion at Mumbai International Airport, spanning 1160 acres. Initial phases target operational readiness by 2025, with full completion expected by 2032.
