People visiting Mumbai's Gateway of India will soon get a majestic and undisturbed view of the monument and the iconic Shivaji Statue. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the State Archeological Department will collaborate to recreate a plaza next to the iconic structure.
The revamp will involve clearing up the food stalls, ticketing counters, and security cabins in the existing plaza. These structures obstruct the view of the Gateway of India and the Shivaji Statue. Hence, all these structures in the current plaza will be shifted to the left side of the footpath, a few paces from the structure.
The new-look plaza will establish a clear line of sight to the iconic monument and the legendary statue. Furthermore, the five port cabins will also be relocated to the left side of the footpath. A shaded corridor and a courtyard will also be set up alongside these structures for people to sit and enjoy the view.
