Offering some relaxation to the commuters in Mumbai, the authorities have now reduced the prices of AC local trains on selected routes. As per the notification issued by the Railways, the revised price of the air-conditioned suburban trains is now active and was put into effect from May 5.
Notably, the AC local train service was first launched in Mumbai in December 2017. At present, there are around 80 such trains that ply across the Mumbai region every day.
According to the press release by the Central Railways, the minimum fare of ₹65 for covering 5 km has now been revised to ₹35. Similarly, the entire kilometres category has witnessed rationalisation. As a result, the current fare of AC local train plying between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and Thane has been reduced to ₹95 from ₹180 and for the CSMT-Kalyan trains, the price has been slashed to ₹105 from ₹210.
Among these, prices have been slashed for suburban trains plying on 7 other routes as well. Check the full list for AC local and ordinary trains with their revised prices here.
Additionally, single journey basic fare have been reduced for the first class of ordinary train services over suburban sections. This reduction is aimed towards offering economic commuting options to daily travellers.
