National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) has made significant progress in the construction of India’s inaugural bullet train corridor from Mumbai to Ahmedabad. To date, 163 km of viaduct, 302 km of piers, and 323 km of foundations have been completed. Among these, track laying has commenced on 35 km of the viaduct. Furthermore, all tenders for civil works across the entire corridor have been awarded, signifying substantial advancement in the project.

Of the 508-km-long MAHSR corridor, 352 km is situated in Gujarat and Dadra and Nagar Haveli, while the remaining 156 km lies within Maharashtra. This corridor encompasses 465 km on viaducts, 9.82 km on bridges, 5.22 km passing through mountain tunnels, and 21 km underground, including a 7 km segment beneath the sea.

The Ministry of Railways aims to inaugurate the initial bullet train services on the priority stretch of the Mumbai Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) Corridor by August 2026. This priority section spans for 50 kilometres, running from Surat to Billimora.

The MAHSR route will feature a total of 12 bullet train stations, with 8 located in Gujarat and the remaining in Maharashtra. The route includes stations at Sabarmati, Ahmedabad, Anand, Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Bilimora, Vapi, Boisar, Virar, Thane, and Mumbai. In the Union Budget 2024-25, ₹25,000 crore was embarked for the bullet train project. In the previous fiscal year, NHSRCL received a capital allocation of ₹19,592 crore.

In conclusion, this bullet train is set to operate at a maximum speed of 320 km per hour, traversing the entire route from Sabarmati to Mumbai in just 2 hours and 58 minutes.
