Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) is all set to roll out 1000 e-bikes in Mumbai. The green mode of transit will be available at Mumbai’s significant BEST depots and stations, by the end of this year. Keeping user safety in mind, the maximum speed of the e-bikes would be capped at 25 km/h.
Notably, in order to use the e-bikes, consumers must download the concerned application and unlock the bikes. The BEST Chalo App and BEST bus pass will be integrated with the e-bike service once it is fully functioning.
The transport cost at which the bikes will be available for rent are kept pretty economical, so that everyone can make use of them. The base fare of the e-bike, reportedly, is set at ₹20, along with additional ₹3 for each kilometre.
An alternate, time based fee structure will also available for riders. For the first 40 minutes, the user must pay ₹1.5 for each minute; beyond that, the rider is liable to pay ₹2 per minute.
E-bikes will also be available to super saver plan members. The plan specification will eventually be available on the Chalo App.
The e-bike service will provide last mile connectivity to and from major bus stops, residential societies and business districts of Mumbai, that too at reasonable prices. Reportedly, by the end of this year the service will be available at major BEST depots and stations of the city.
